‘Ipchungut’ rite marks onset of spring

For peace and prosperity in the year ahead “Ipchungut” welcomes Jeju’s 18,000 gods as they return from their brief respite in the heavens to mark 2015 as the Year of the Sheep.

East and West Maitreya Festival


Feb 3, 6pm
A shamanic rite will be held at Jeju Castle to welcome Jeju’s 18,000 gods and godesses followed by a Jeju flag parade toward Jeju Mokgwanaji.

Segyeong Grandmother Rite


Feb 4 at 10am
A shaman will hold the annual rite, Chungyeongmungut,” to open the Year of the Sheep with various performances.

Feb 5 at 11am
A celebration of local tradition with Jeju language singing, traditional martial arts, NANTA plays and more shamanic rites. Various foods and drinks will be on sale with other participative activities.
